About this event
A perfect trip for paddlers with some Lake Superior experience who want to expand their island trips and take on kayak camping!
Ready to get off the mainland? See some other islands? Put on some more miles over 4 days of paddling? Want to put that ultralight stove and tent to use?
• This trip will begin with a pre-trip paddle on Lake Minnetonka.
• We'll overnight on the mainland at Little Sand Bay July 16th. Come up after work on Wednesday and prepare for a morning launch on Thursday.
• We'll paddle to Stockton Island, where we'll camp for 3 nights.
• Friday and Saturday, we'll have day trip paddles, exploring islands we don't typically reach on club trips, like Michigan, Manitou, Ironwood, or Cat. Take a day to rest or paddle every day. Trips will be planned according to weather and conditions.
• On Sunday, we'll paddle back to Little Sand Bay early enough to drive back to the Cities the same day.
Stockton B Group Site requires 8 campers. If fewer than 8 paddlers register by June 10, the reservation will be changed to a single site and itinerary will be changed accordingly. Dates will remain the same. Therefore, the last day to cancel registrations is June 10th.
This is an ISK Level 4 Trip
A Level Four day trip is the highest ISK trip level that you will experience in a non-coastal environment. Group expectations will be set by the leader for each paddle.
A Level Four day trip raises the expected condition to:
• You may encounter waves that consistently break over the deck of your kayak. These waves may cause instability.
• There may be scattered whitecaps present.
• Potential spots to stop to rest or get off the water could be up to three hours apart.
• These stopping places may present difficult landing spots.
• The trip duration could be up to six hours and cover up to 16 miles.
• You may experience heavy boat traffic that requires two-way communication with them.
• An emergency kit should be carried for unexpected extended or overnight stays.
• An example of a Level Four trip is a journey in the Apostle Islands.
