Trying to build on a weak base will slow our growth as paddlers, and poor skills that we can get away with on flat, calm water will not work as we want to start paddling in more challenging environments.

The goal of this course is to provide an effective, ergonomic, and efficient set of skills for people to grow throughout their kayaking career. We'll start with a quick review of correct grip and hand placement on the paddle shaft, check on boat fit, and introduce common terms.  We'll explore balance, posture and tilting, as well as correct blade and boat use to create a solid foundation to build on.  And having better skills just plain adds to the fun we can have in our boats.

This course goes far deeper than introductory courses do.  Strokes covered may include forward and reverse sweeps, pivot turns, reverse stroke, forward stroke and low braces.

Prerequisites:
  • Intro to Sea Kayaking
  • Self and assisted rescue
