About Us

Welcome to the Inland Sea Kayakers Website!

Inland Sea Kayakers (ISK) is an organization of sea kayaking enthusiasts who enjoy paddling and sharing the inspiration, education, and connection water provides.

Purpose of ISK:
  • To promote safe sea kayaking through education, instruction, and leadership.
  • To encourage exploration and recreational use of the Great Lakes and smaller bodies of water by offering instruction and training, by providing and developing leadership, and by scheduling trips throughout the kayaking season.
  • To promote public goodwill and understanding of sea kayaking and foster its development in Minnesota and adjoining states.
  • To encourage, aid, and give direction to conservation of water resources and adjacent lands for recreational purpose.
Contained in the pages of this website you will find our mission statement (which defines our purpose), calendar, resources, and photos and highlights of our activities, which include trips, picnic, twice annual rendezvous events, winter pool sessions, training opportunities, monthly programs and our annual working dinner where we map out activities for the year. As you will quickly realize, this has been an active club since its inception, with many skilled members devoted to making a better paddling community.

If your interest is to become a better, more skilled paddler, Inland Sea Kayakers is definitely the home for you. There are many mentors and instructors in the club with special talents in skills and safety.

As a member of Inland Sea Kayakers, you will have a multitude of opportunities to explore your interests in kayaking: expeditions, day trips, short trips, quiet time, nature observing, photography, meeting others, building your own paddles or kayaks, Greenland style paddling and rolling, racing, exercise…you name it, we’ve done it and are pleased to share.

If you chose to not become a member, we still offer opportunities for you: our monthly program meetings occur at our corporate partner, REI, in Bloomington. Also, please join us in the summer months Wednesday nights when we meet on Bde Maka Ska for informal paddling and get to know us. “We are a friendly bunch!”

Questions? Feel free to write to me or any board member – we’d love to hear from you.

President, Inland Sea Kayakers
