What: Kayak camping over 3 nights on 2 islands, Stockton and Basswood
When: June 20 - 24
How far: 4, 10, 14 plus mile paddles on 3 of 4 days out on Superior. Layover day on Stockton Island.
THERE WILL BE A PRE-TRIP PADDLE ON LAKE MINNETONKA ON JUNE 2nd.
IT IS REQUIRED.
This trip begins on the evening of Thursday, June 20th. Head to Little Sand Bay after work for an overnight before we launch the morning of the 21st.
We'll have an early launch the morning of the 21st from LSB, with a ~14 mile paddle to Stockton, similar to the full day paddles we do at the Rendezvous with lunch and rest stops planned. This is our big day and we're tackling it while we're fresh!
We'll set up camp and settle in for 2 nights on Stockton Island.
On the 22nd, we can paddle, rest, hike, or play. This day open for pleasure and fun. Circumnavigating Stockton is an option or an out-and-back paddle. Otherwise, rest in camp, hike, or play.
On the 23, we'll paddle ~10 miles to Basswood and camp on our second island.
On the morning of the 24th, we'll paddle back to LSB in time to head for home. This is a short ~4 mile paddle. Launching in the morning will ensure we have time to get our cars packed up and head home the same day.
Requirements
This is a kayak camping trip of 3 nights and 3 1/2 days. All camping gear, paddling gear, food, etc. must be properly packed and stowed for transport in kayaks. If you have not kayak camped before, please ask questions and see the gear lists in the Member Library: https://inlandseakayakers.org/member-library/ (Remember the password!)
This is an ISK Level 4 Overnight Trip. Paddlers must meet all of the requirements and be comfortable with the conditions listed below.
A Level Four day trip is the highest ISK trip level that you will experience in a non-coastal environment.
You should be comfortable paddling ~3 mph for extended periods of time and with the conditions below:
• You may encounter waves that consistently break over the deck of your kayak. These waves may cause instability.
• There may be scattered whitecaps present.
• Potential spots to stop to rest or get off the water could be up to three hours apart.
• These stopping places may present difficult landing spots.
• The trip duration could be up to six hours and cover up to 15 miles.
• You may experience heavy boat traffic that requires two-way communication with them.
• An emergency kit should be carried for unexpected extended or overnight stays.
• An example of a Level Four trip is a journey in the Apostle Islands.
At the pre-trip paddle, we will get to know each other, practice loading our kayaks, experience paddling fully loaded kayaks, and practice rescues with loaded boats. We may even have some wind and waves to contend with—perfect for Superior preparation!

Note the cancellation policy.
Cancellations could risk the whole trip, because we have group sites that require a minimum of 8 people.
Skills & Experience Required
If you have any question about whether this is an appropriate trip for you (you're a newer paddler, have never paddled Superior, have never kayak camped) please talk to the trip leader before registering. ISK trip leaders always have the discretion to turn down a participant based on requisite skill level.
