In order to have a place to camp for this event you will need to make a personal reservation for a campsite with the MN DNR.  The website for reservations is:  http://www.stayatmnparks.com/SearchPark.aspx  The cost for camping is $20 per night, the reservation fee is $8.50, total for two nights is $48.50. From past trips, it is my understanding that we are allowed to have up to 2 tents per campsite (the reservation site says one tent per site).  So if you know someone that is going on the trip by all means try to arrange to share the site for the two nights.  I recommend reserving Lakeview sites 2 through 5.  I have reserved Lakeview 1, if you want to share my campsite please let me know.  We will be launching from the boat launch next to Lakeview 1.

This skill session is intended for beginners as well as experienced kayakers.

The campsite will be available on Friday night.  We will start the on land portion of the skill development at 9 AM on Saturday.  The morning will be spent working on the use of maps, charts and compasses.  One of the goals in the morning will be to develop a course and trip plan for the Saturday night trip.  In the afternoon we will go on the water to try out our group rescue and paddling skills.  Then after dark we will go on the water to practice the skills we worked on during the day.

In addition to your boat and paddling equipment you will need to bring a handheld compass, a lightstick or other marker light, a handheld flashlight to meet DNR lighting requirements, paper and writing instruments.  We will provide maps for course plotting.

Meals are on your own.  Please do not consume alcohol or judgement impairing drugs before paddling on Saturday night.
